Odds look random until you translate them into percentages. This is the same arithmetic whether the game is PBA or NBA.
Step 1: implied probability
Implied probability = 1 ÷ decimal odds.
Invented moneyline: Team A 1.50, Team B 2.60.
- Team A: 1 ÷ 1.50 = 0.667, so 66.7%.
- Team B: 1 ÷ 2.60 = 0.385, so 38.5%.
Step 2: add them up
0.667 + 0.385 = 1.051, or about 105.1%. A fair two-way market would total 100%. The extra ~5 points are the bookmaker's built-in margin (the "vig" or "juice"), which is why you lose a little over time even when your picks are exactly as good as the odds suggest.
Step 3: what it means for you
- To break even at odds of 2.60 you need to win more than 38.5% of the time on that kind of bet.
- A tip that "feels" 60% likely is only valuable if the odds imply less than 60%. Feelings and favourite teams are not edges.
- A longer losing streak than you expect is normal. Never raise stakes to chase it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert decimal odds to implied probability?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.00 imply 1 / 2.00 = 50%.
What is the bookmaker's margin?
When the implied probabilities of all outcomes add up to more than 100%, the extra is the bookmaker's built-in margin. In our invented example it is about 5%.
Ano ang implied probability?
Ito ang tsansang 'ipinapahiwatig' ng odds. Hatiin ang 1 sa decimal odds: ang 2.00 ay 50%.
