How they work

Fishing games let you fire shots at moving fish and creatures. Each shot costs credits; a hit pays a multiple. Operators set the average return in the game's maths, so the casino keeps an edge over time, like other electronic games.

Where the return comes from (invented example)

Each fish has a prize multiple and a hit chance set by the game. Suppose a fish pays 10x a shot and the game gives each shot a 9% chance of killing it: the expected return on that fish is 0.09 × 10 = 0.90 of the shot cost, so 10% goes to the house. A game can mix many fish with different values and chances, but the designer sets the average return. Bigger cannon levels cost more per shot and do not change the percentage.

Bet levels, bosses and bonuses

• Cannon or bet level: the cost of each shot. Raising it raises how fast you can lose.
• Boss fish and special rounds: large prizes at low hit chances; they feel exciting and have the same average return built in.
• Power-ups: often cost credits and are part of the maths.

Skill versus luck

Aiming and bet size can change your short-term experience, but they do not remove the house edge. Treat spending as entertainment cost and use limits. Fast arcade pacing makes it easy to spend more than planned.
